Gusto NEXT 2024 Reflections – Community and Connection

by | Sep 4, 2024

Community and connection was not the first thing that came to mind when I thought about the key learnings I wanted to gain from the Gusto NEXT conference this past July.
Going into the conference, I was anticipating I’d network. I also thought I’d learn about industry trends, and discover new tech and tools that drive growth. However, I left with much more.

About Community & Connection

During the conference, I was privileged to hear Gusto’s Monique Jackson’s session. She talked about “Sparking Community and Connection in a Distributed World.” This presentation was about connecting with other businesses from across the country and learning from one another. Her presentation about “how or what is necessary to develop community and connection” really resonated with me. Monique mentioned community is about individuals with a shared purpose and a common goal in showing mutual support and collaboration.

Consequently, this brought me to the thought – if you are a part of a community, is it meaningful without connection? To develop a connection, you must have open communication, trust, diverse contributions, and inclusion. This session was particularly impactful as it aligns with my commitment to building a strong community at NFP Partners. We strive to support our team through both professional and personal development. One way we do this is by offering a safe space for open communication through our Allyship program in partnership with HealthTeamWorks.

This program aims to create a community. We also hope to build connections by fostering a shared understanding and language around diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are learning if we are privileged, how can we make connections within that community with those that are impacted by bias in everyday ways to develop trust and mutual support. At NFP Partners, we all have our own individual journeys, but we will continue to support our team as we each find our place on this learning path.
